Its the perfect time of year to prepare for the upcoming beekeeping season! 
Bee classes are taught by Dow Gardens’ entomologist, Elly Maxwell. Class sizes are limited.

Interested in bees and beekeeping? There  are many things to consider before you embark on this challenging & rewarding adventure! This presentation will help you decide if backyard beekeeping (and classes 2-4) are right for you.  No fee for this session, class sizes are limited, pre-registration required.

#2 - BEEHIVE EQUIPMENT CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOP

Build your own 8 or 10 frame hive body in this all-day workshop. Bring two hammers (one heavy and one light) a sack lunch, and leave with a hive ready for bees!  Fee ($150.00) includes materials. Will provided information about acquiring bees (not included.) Pre-registration is required. Please call 989 631 2677 to register!

#3 - BEES 101

So you’ve built a hive and are ready to add the bees!  Learn the basics in setting up a new hive, feeding, basic bee biology, evaluating the success of your queen, and other fundamental beekeeping skills.  Live hive time at Whiting Forest available, so bring your veil if you have one! $5.00 per person.

#4 - BEES 102, BEYOND THE BEE BASICS

The work doesn't end after your bees are installed.  We’ll talk about evaluating success of your hive as the season goes on, honey collection, and disease identification and prevention! $5.00 per person.
